IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities
Introduction
The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is a non-profit organization that represents an international network of people who are committed to bringing children and books together. One project, the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities, is located at North York Central Library and includes:
- Outstanding examples of books for and about young people with disabilities
- 4,000 titles in over 50 languages
- Specialized formats such as Braille, PCS and Sign Language
- Tactile and textile books

Submissions
Every two years the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities, in conjunction with the IBBY Secretariat, selects 40 outstanding books for and about young people with disabilities, which are annotated in a print/online catalogue. See submission guidelines.
About IBBY
Founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1953, the IBBY organization is composed of over 70 National Sections all over the world, including Canada. It represents countries with well-developed book publishing and literacy programs, and other countries with only a few dedicated professionals who are doing pioneer work in children’s book publishing and promotion. An important goal is to give children everywhere access to books with high literary and artistic standards, including young people with disabilities.
